The existing one has a 1 laundry hose with no check valve that discharges to a floor. The check valve should go on the hose coming from the fresh water tank. Additional check valves may be installed on well piping inside the well within 25 ft. Check valves or one way valves are designed to stop backflow and ultimately to protect pumps and compressors.

A check valve at this location is a great idea and reduces the risk that a failure of the foot valve down in the well leads to inability of the pump to draw water. I just bought a new sump pump that requires a 1 1 4 hose to replace one that no longer works properly. They are available in several styles and sizes from 1 8 inch to as large as may be required. Choosing the right one for your application is key.
